Making 2020 Winter Holidays Special

Like so many things in 2020, when it comes to celebrating winter holidays like Hanukah, Christmas, and the New Year, we're going to have to get creative!

We reached out on social media asking to hear your plans and ideas for how to celebrate in this very bizarre year.  Here are the results.

1.     I actually delivered advent calendars to a few of my close friends. I thought that would be a good way to bring a little cheer to the next 24 days!

2.     Decorated much earlier this year except the Christmas tree - Christmas tree will be decorated by the whole family singing Christmas carols and having hot chocolate and Christmas cookies

3.     I've added more lights and another tree. The more lights the better, it makes me feel good.

4.     Already making Christmas cookies.

5.     Virtual Nutcracker with family.  Virtual holiday wine tasting with friends. Christmas lights drive.  Christmas drive through parade.

6.     To get our children in the spirit of giving, we’re DIYing small gifts and will be leaving them on our local friends’ and families’ doorstep as a surprise.

7.     Making more ethnic holiday recipes.

8.     My friend set up a group on Facebook where each night, we all share a much-loved ornament from our Christmas trees with a little story about the ornament.  This is an easy way to nurture the holiday spirit throughout December.

9.     Since we can't travel, I'm hoping to have a few friends gather in the yard and trying to figure out a way to set up a table for each family that I have over so that we can all social distance while at least being together.

10. Using Elfster app.

11. Setting a time and via Zoom opening presents.  Get to see families faces when they open the gifts.

12. Elf on a Shelf.

13. Similar to Elf on a Shelf, we’ve been using my son’s toys to create scenes that make it look like they’ve been up to shenanigans in the middle of the night.  This is our 5th year and we always start it the night we put up the Christmas tree, which we try to do the day after Thanksgiving.  My husband and I take turns creating scenes so we get to enjoy the surprise of each other’s creativity.
