Savvy Shopping for April

Spring-Clothes.jpeg

By Melissa TosettiOne of the keys to living a savvy life is smart spending.  From groceries and clothes to household items and cars, the simple habit of timing your purchases with seasonal sales can help you save significantly. For the month of April, some of the best buys you’ll come across include:Vacuum CleanersAlthough some of the lowest  prices for vacuum cleaners happen on Black Friday, April is also a good time to buy. Retailers understand that consumers have spring cleaning in mind and they want to take advantage of that mindset. Cleaning ProductsEverything you need to clean your house from top to bottom will be available at some of the best prices of the year in April.  Watch your favorite store’s sales ads to give yourself a chance to know when to pull the trigger.  It’s OK to stock up, just don’t go crazy and buy more than you’ll use over the next year.Spring Dress Clothes  Spring dress clothes started hitting stores back in February. April is the peak season for those items. There’s still plenty of merchandise available and the sales will be good. However, if you’re looking for clearance sale prices, wait until May when retailers are looking to make room for summer clothing items.GroceriesTo coincide with Easter, ham will be on sale this month. If the sale price is exceptional, consider picking up a second one to put in the freezer.Just about everything “baking” will be on sale this month from spices to flour, sugar and more.  I love to bake so I try to purchase enough at this time to get me at least halfway through the summer.  Prices likely won’t be this good again until November so consider stocking up as well.ProduceFor the best possible taste as well as price, look for the following produce to be on sale this month:

  • Artichokes
  • Asparagus
  • Beets
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Grapefruit
  • Avocado
  • Onions
  • Rhubarb

I went to my Safeway just this morning and came back with a huge bunch of beets for just $2.49.  For San Francisco Bay Area standards, that’s CHEAP!  I can’t wait to roast them as part of tonight’s dinner!Happy shopping!
