Back to School is the Catalyst to Reboot

By Kevin GibbonsIt’s August and the Back to School ads are in full force. Stores are quick to point out that Back to School isn’t just for students. That parents and professionals can stock up on office and school supplies at the same time as new and returning students. But there are other ways all of us can benefit from this time of year. In addition to being the time to buy pens, pencils, erasers and notepaper (do students even use any of those anymore?), this is a time for all of us to refocus our lives.“Back to School” is when students and parents make the lists of all the things they need to do, purchase and organize before school actually starts. It is a time when many of us consciously make changes to our routines and habits. Whether you are a student, have students in your family, or even have nothing to do with school, this is a great time to make those changes you have been thinking about or postponing. If you’re already making changes to your schedule and life as you shift from summer to fall, look at your shopping and food preparation routines. With a more structured schedule, now may be the time to implement or revisit your meal planning process. Look at streamlining your grocery shopping to get the most out of your valuable time.Look at your phone and cable plans. With everyone refocusing their time in different areas, does it make sense to modify those plans and save some money? Have you been meaning to shop around for better car or home insurance? Now is the time to do it, when you are thinking about new driving routes and travel times. For many of us, this time of year is a time of action. Getting the family ready for the school year has to be done now. So capitalize on that energy and drive to make the changes that you may have been thinking about but putting off until a later date. You’re on a roll! Keep the momentum going and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.________________________________________________________________________________________________Kevin Gibbons is the COO of The Savvy Life and co-author of the international bestseller Living The Savvy Life. At The Savvy Life, we work with individuals and families to create tailored Spending Plans. We also work with financial advisors and their clients doing cash flow planning as well as giving Savvy Living presentations via webinar and in-person to audiences across the U.S.If you’d like to learn more about how we work with clients visit The Savvy Life’s Programs page. If you’d like to learn more about how we work with financial advisors and their clients visit: The Savvy Life Advisor’s Page
