Snow Trip 2008 PDF Print Email

Two weekends ago we spent three, blissful nights in North Lake Tahoe for our annual snow trip. For those of you who may not be familiar with our tradition, instead of buying Christmas gifts for each other, my friends (including Budget Savvy staff members: Kevin, Janna and Mark and our friends Jesse, Karl and of course Paul and Dante) and I all chip and rent a cabin for three nights in Tahoe. The tradition is now 12 years old. It is an event that we all hold sacred.

I don't know if it is fair to say that we spent three nights in Tahoe. It was more like two and a half. Although we left the San Francisco Bay Area at 4pm on Friday, we didn't arrive at the cabin until 2am. The last five hours of the trip was spent driving 5 mph in bumper to bumper traffic through a snow storm. I'm always up for a bit of adventure and this proved to be an adventure. At one point, the snow piled so high on the hood of my car that I had to get out and clear it off.

Luckily, Dante slept most of the trip and his "uncle" Jesse was in the back seat entertaining him the rest of the time.

Once we got to the cabin we stayed up (including Dante) until about 5:30 am having a late night/early morning snack of bread, cheese and a glass of wine to calm the frazzled nerves. Dante indulged in milk, not wine.

We spent the rest of the weekend playing games, sitting in the newly installed hot tub (see photo of Paul –with glass raised- and Jesse), teaching Dante how to sled, eating wonderful food and drinking delicious wine. I can think of no better way to relax, rejuvenate and celebrate friendship. We are already planning Snow Trip 2009!
